A Day of Dignity, Connection and Meaning: How PA Services for You Delivers Truly Person-Centred Support

At PA Services for You, we believe that meaningful care goes beyond routines — it’s about relationships, respect, and creating moments that matter. One of our support workers recently shared a reflection on a day spent with a client (IG), offering a window into the kind of thoughtful, person-centred care that defines our approach.

A Calm and Respectful Start

The day began gently. IG was woken with care and attention, ensuring she felt calm and secure. She was hoisted into her chair with dignity and supported into the shower room. There, warm water was first introduced to her feet — a soothing way to begin the day and ease her into the experience. She had time to engage in water play, clearly enjoying herself, with the entire routine carried out at her pace and with her comfort as the priority.

Honouring Choice in Everyday Moments

After the shower, IG was presented with a selection of clothes. Though she couldn’t express her preferences verbally, her choices were honoured — a bright, sparkly t-shirt was picked out along with boots that complemented both the outfit and her vibrant personality. She looked completely herself and ready for the day ahead.

Strengthening Family Connection

A particularly special part of the day was the involvement of IG’s older brother, who joined her and the support worker. His presence brought comfort, familiarity, and a sense of shared experience that clearly meant a lot to them both. The bond between them was strong and steady — full of care and mutual respect.

Active Engagement and Encouragement

Later, at the gym, IG used an adapted pedal wheelchair bike. She took part with enthusiasm and determination, benefitting from both the physical activity and the positive encouragement of those around her. Her brother and support worker remained fully present and engaged — making the activity not just accessible, but deeply meaningful.

True Inclusion in Everyday Life

The day continued with a visit to the college café, where IG spent time with peers and other support workers. What stood out wasn’t just the relaxed atmosphere, but the level of real inclusion. No one was on their phones — everyone was talking, laughing, and connecting. Despite not using verbal communication, IG was naturally and respectfully included in conversations. Her presence was acknowledged, and she was treated as an equal — a simple yet powerful reflection of true community.

Music, Movement, and Self-Expression

After lunch, IG attended a rock music singing class. Here, her expressive side really came through. At one point, she was moved onto the floor — her preferred position where she feels most relaxed and at ease. From there, she explored a range of musical shakers and became fully immersed in the rhythm and energy of the session. The music teacher even sang a song using her name — a thoughtful gesture that brought a real connection to the moment.

Ending the Day Surrounded by Family

Back at home, the day continued with warmth and shared activity. IG was welcomed back by her family with kindness and familiarity. She took part in helping her younger brother with a hair trim, watching closely and engaging with those around her. The home was filled with conversation, laughter, and genuine connection — the kind that can’t be staged.

This wasn’t just a well-supported day. It was a day filled with care, respect, and meaningful connection — designed entirely around IG, her preferences, her comfort, and her right to fully participate in life.

At PA Services for You, this is what we believe great care should look like — led by the individual, supported by those who truly see them, and rooted in real, everyday moments that make a lasting difference.
