Closing the Year: Quality, Performance, and Humanity by Alison Bacon, PA Services Quality and Performance Manager

As we approach the end of the year, I’ve been reflecting on what this journey has meant - both in my role as Quality and Performance Manager and as a person who believes deeply in good things, good karma, and doing the right thing.
Quality and performance aren’t just about systems and standards; they’re about people. Behind every process is a life, a story, and a need for dignity. That’s why my work - and my world - are intertwined. Reflection is part of my role, but it’s also part of my life: asking what worked well, where we can improve, an, how I can improve, what is going on for someone else, and how we/i can make things better for others.
This year has taught me that excellence comes from empathy. It’s in the small acts that ripple outward. For me, that means stepping beyond the job description - because care doesn’t stop at the office door. I’ve spent time supporting the homeless, offering haircuts to people with challenging behaviours, and doing countless little things throughout the year that are about others. These aren’t obligations; they’re choices I love making. Every second matters because I never know how many more I’ll have.

Managing my health condition is a quiet part of my story. I do it well, but it shapes my perspective. Life is precious, and that makes me treasure every moment - every conversation, every chance to help, every opportunity to make someone feel seen and valued. It’s why I pour myself into my work and my community with the same heart.
Because whether I’m reviewing performance metrics or giving someone a haircut, my goal is the same: to create good, to spread kindness, and to leave things better than I found them.
Looking ahead, I want to keep blending structure with humanity - leading with integrity while driving excellence. I want to keep asking the hard questions and making the right choices, even when they’re not easy. And most of all, I want to keep loving every second, because that’s where the real quality of life - and work - exists.
Closing Thought
"Quality isn’t just a standard - it’s a way of living. Let’s keep doing the right thing, for the right reasons, every single day."
