Getting to Know Me: Alain Peter, CQC Registered Manager at PA Services For You

From finance to frontline care - finding purpose, people, and perspective.

My life revolves around my amazing three boys: Daniel (8), Matthew (5), and Thomas (3), they are my world! Everything I do starts and ends with them.

In 2021, my world changed completely when my son was diagnosed with leukaemia, and the next four years became a whirlwind of hospital visits, chemotherapy, lumber punctures,  high and low emotions, good days, bad days, and everything in between, including holidays being cancelled at the last minute and priorities shifted. But through it all, I found resilience, love from many friends, family and the wonderful team at Outwood at East Surrey Hospital. Today, I’m so grateful to say that Daniel is now clear, healthy, happy, and back to being the bright, cheeky boy we always knew. Watching his strength through such a tough journey changed my whole perspective on life.

Over the past fifteen years, I’ve worked in residential learning disability settings and elderly day centres - each experience reminding me that care isn’t just a job. It’s a privilege.

Twelve months ago following Daniel getting the all clear and seeing the wonderful support we got at home during the last 4 years, I decided I wanted to make a difference to other people in their homes and I joined PA Services for You, this has been a whole new kind of learning curve. 

Adapting to a team that isn’t always in the same place, not seeing colleagues or clients every day, that took some getting used to. But from day one, I’ve been welcomed like family. The Hub has been a real anchor, a space to connect, share, and remind ourselves of the incredible impact our work has.

I love the chance to get to know all our clients, and recently I’ve had the privilege of welcoming two new clients, supporting them at Chailey Heritage in Lewes. Every day brings something different, and every person I meet reminds me why I do what I do.

As the Registered Manager for PA Services for You, my role includes overseeing performance, regulation, and ensuring we always meet the highest standards of care. It’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly but one I feel honoured to hold. 

I’m fortunate to have incredible support from my colleagues, including Alison Bacon, our Performance Manager, whose attention to detail keeps us strong, and from the inspiring leadership of Lucy, who set the tone for everything we do.

Each story, each small step forward, feels like being part of something bigger a community built on trust, understanding, and genuine care. I feel privileged to be part of the PA Services for You family, surrounded by people who truly believe in what’s possible.
